Fellowships and Assistantships
Teaching fellowships, research assistantships
and teaching assistantships
funded by the department support more than half of the department's
graduate students. Nine month salaries range from $5,488 for assistantships
to $7,443 for fellowships, include medical insurance benefits and
in-state tuition rates for out-of-state students. Some hourly positions
are available for tutoring and grading for Principles of Economics
classes. These hourly positions do not provide in-state tuition
rates. Department scholarships available to graduate students are
the Tom Preston Scholarship, Sam Barton Labor and Industrial Relations
Scholarship, and Department of Economics Scholarship. The number
and availability depend on funding. Applications for departmental
scholarships and work positions can be obtained from the economics

Application
Teaching Fellowships are availalbe
for students in the second year of the graduate program. Students
on fellowships teach two sectiosn of Principles of Microeconomics
or Principles of Macroeconomics. Eligibility for fellowships require
the completion of 18 graduate hours in economics and successful
completion of the departmental Teacher Training Program. The fellowships
provide a nine month salary of $7,443, medical insurance benefits,
and in-state tuition rates for out-of-state students.
Research and Teaching Assistantships
are available for students in the first year of the graduate program.
Students on assistantships work directly with one or two faculty
members for the semester. The positions allow the students to develop
the technical skills necessary to excel in today's labor market.
The assistantships provide a nine month salary of $5,488, medical
insurance benefits, and in-state tuition rates for out-of-state
students.
Tutoring and Grading Positions:
The Department of Economics provides the Principles of Economics
courses. The tutoring center is staffed with graduate students.
Other graduate students serve as graders for faculty members teaching
Principles of Economics classes. The grading and tutoring positions
are 20 hours per week positions that pay $8.25 per hour. |
