Meetings Organized through the Center
- The CIESR organized a symposium on U.S.-Mexico border issues that was held on April 6th, 2001. The internationally-known presenters at the all day seminar were:

- Using a Charn Uswachoke International Development Fund grant for $5,000 (co-Principal Investigators: Alicia ReCruz from Anthropology and David J. Molina of the CIESR), the CIESR organized a series of teleconferences. These were conducted during 2000 and involved students from UNT and from the Universidad de Quintana Roo in Mexico. Staff from both universities participated in the seminars. The purpose of the talks were to compare US-Mexico border issues with those of Mexico-Belize and Guatemala. The presenters were:

- The CIESR organized a series called "Lectures on Latin American Issues" during the 1995-1996 academic year at UNT:
- Spring 1996, "The Economic Integration of the U.S. and Mexico, Beyond the NAFTA" by David J. Molina, Associate Professor of Economics, UNT.
- Fall 1995, "Repression and Democratization in Central American" by John Booth Regents' Professor of Political Science, UNT.
- The CIESR organized a session entitled "The U.S.-Mexico Border for the Next Ten Years and Unto the Next Century" at the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) in Washington D.C., April, 1991.
- The CIESR organized the presentation by Michael Conroy of the University of Texas at Austin and John Booth (UNT-Political Science) on the Election in Nicaragua.
- The CIESR organized a session on the Maquila Industry at The North American Economics and Finance Association Annual Meeting in Mexico City, August 6-9, 1990.
- The CIESR, in concert with the UNT Economics Club, organized a Round Table Discussion on the North American Free Trade Agreement on April 2, 1990. The participants were:

Other Activities of the Center
- Prof. Todd Jewell presented the results of the Coahuila pilot survey at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico in Toluca in August 2007.
- Prof. McPherson designed and implemented a study of small businesses in East Java, Indonesia, August, 2003
- Professor Molina was invited to be a speaker at the Council of Ministers Strategic Leadership Program of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa in Lusaka, Zambia on November 27-28, 2002.
- Since 2001, Professor McPherson has made brief visits to former Soviet states Armenia and Moldova, and to the former Soviet-bloc country of Bulgaria. In general the purpose of these visits was to provide counsel to these countries' governments regarding the role of small enterprises in their economies.
- Between September 2001 and August 2002, Professor McPherson is a co-principal investigator on a $370,000 grant from the U.S. State Department. This interdisciplinary team is made up of UNT faculty from Economics, Public Administration, Journalism, Geography, Biology, and the College of Business. Two separate groups of African professionals will have been brought to UNT for professional development. This program will include a conference in June 2002 at the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank on economic integration and NAFTA.
- In October of 2000, Professor McPherson traveled to the University of Nairobi in Kenya as an envoy from UNT. The purpose of this visit was to arrange a Memorandum of Understanding to foster cooperation between the universities.
- Prof. Molina published in 2001 an chapter book entitled: Economic Dynamics in the U.S. Border Region in U.S.-Mexican Economic Integration: NAFTA at the Grassroots, edited by John Bailey, U.S.-Mexican Policy Studies Series, Policy Report No. 11, Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, University of Texas at Austin, pp.71-97.
- Prof. Molina participated in a series of workshops on the concept of "Bi-national trading emission programs" in Mexicali, Reynosa, Laredo, Matamoros and Cd. Juarez between the summer of 2001 and the summer of 2002. In these workshops, Dr. Molina, environmental officers of maquiladoras (generally American plants operating on the Mexico side of the border), experts from New Mexico State University, and other experts from private industry explained the concept and advantages of trading air pollution emissions across the border.
- Prof. Molina participated on a Panel discussion of the Impacts of NAFTA on the Laredo Border, sponsored by the Leadership Laredo, Nov. 11, 1993.
- Prof. Molina served as a member of the Socioeconomic Group of the Risk Assessment Committee of the Texas National Resource Conservation Committee
- Prof. Molina testified before the subcommittee on Texas-Mexico Affairs of the Texas House of Representative on the impact of NAFTA on the Texas border 1992.
- Prof. Molina testified before the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative at public hearings on the North American Free Trade Agreement, Houston, TX, August 26, 1991.
- Prof. Molina served as a member of the Steering Committee of the Texas Consortium on Free Trade, a committee established under House 1879 of the Texas House of Representatives. The Committee was coordinated by the Texas Department of Commerce during the summer of 1991.
- Prof. Molina served as chair of the Committee on Infrastructure of the Texas Consortium on Free Trade, summer of 1991.
- Prof. Molina testified at Congressional Briefings on May 13, 1991 on the impact of a North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) on the Hispanic community. The House Briefing was sponsored by Rep. Bill Richardson of New Mexico while the Senate briefing was sponsored by Sen. Lloyd Bentson.
